The Benefits of Wetpour Surface

When it comes to playground surfacing options, Wetpour Surface is slowly but surely making waves in the industry. It has a host of benefits that help it stand out from the crowd.

Wetpour is a double-layered safety system that is mixed and laid on site. The base layer is made of recycled rubber from tyres (SBR) and the top is made of EPDM – Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. This consists of small granules that are bound together to provide a seamless surfacing free from joints.

The Science Behind Wetpour: How It Provides Safety and Durability

Due to its porosity, wet pour surfacing absorbs rainwater and does not flood, as can be the case with loose-fill surfaces. It can also self-seed weeds in the gaps between the shredded rubber, which is why regular maintenance is important.

However, weeds can be easily removed by sweeping the surface and spraying it with a weak solution of washing-up liquid. In addition, any oil stains can be easily lifted with a cloth and methylated spirits. Snow and ice don’t harm wetpour, but it is recommended to regularly scrape off the surface with rubber-edged scrapers. Avoid metal scrapers or solvent-based de-icers, as they may distort the surface.

Rubber wetpour is a fantastic option for playgrounds as it is a resilient, weatherproof surfacing solution that provides children with a safe place to play. It can be used in a wide range of areas such as public play parks, schools, nurseries and more. In fact, it is often used in Daily Mile installations, allowing kids to get that all-important 15 minutes of exercise per day outside.
